FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Shadow Art Fair Organizers Go Head-to-Head with the Ann Arbor Art Fairs and Offer Arts-Related Grant Opportunities to Help Those with Great Ideas

Ypsilanti, Michigan, April 14, 2008 - The organizers of The Shadow Art Fair typically set their fair's date for the Saturday preceding the Ann Arbor Art Fairs. But for their third summer planning and hosting the event, they decided their fair could exist simultaneously with the Ann Arbor Art Fairs. The (Summer) Shadow Art Fair, scheduled for Saturday, July 19th, will be the first summer Shadow to occur on the Saturday of the Ann Arbor Art Fairs; it also kicks off the 2008 set of bi-annual events. The second, The (Winter) Shadow Art Fair, will take place in early December.

The Michigan Design Militia, the group that organizes The Shadow Art Fair, seems to add new ideas and creative thinking to each fair, making one slightly different from prior Shadow Art Fairs. This summer's event is no exception, as the group has planned to announce the recipients of their arts-related grant(s) give-away, totaling $1,027.18.

During the (Winter) Shadow Art Fair last December, the group placed a nickel-donation bucket at the entrance to see how much money they could raise for future arts-related programs. "People were throwing nickels, dollar bills, five dollar bills, money like crazy, into that bucket. I remember the doorman, had to keep emptying it to make room for more donations!" says Jennifer Albaum, one of the organizers of the event.

Aware that money was being raised for a creative grant, The Corner Brewery decided to help out as well. They donated one dollar from each purchase of their Shadow Brew, a beer that was created especially for the Shadow Art Fair, to the fund, bringing the total amount raised to $1,027.18.

"We're beside ourselves with excitement," squeals Albaum. "The Shadow Art Fair has really become what we intended it to be. A fully-loaded, community-based event with all the fixin's. Because of the fair attendees' generosity, we're in a position to help others who have really good ideas see them through. And that's flat-out exciting!"

The grant application process is just beginning, so interested applicants can visit the Shadow Art Fair website and apply directly online.

For those interested in applying for one of the juried vendor slots for this summer's event, or for those interested in submitting a design for the Shadow Art Fair poster design contest, applications open on Tuesday, April 15th and close on May 15th.

Look for The Shadow Art Fair on Saturday July 19th from noon to midnight at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti. One day, 40+ artists, 9,000 gallons of beer
